Slowburn Studios

Building thoughtful software, one idea at a time.

The story so far

Slowburn Studios is the solo venture of Richard Webb -- a software engineer, engineering manager, and lifelong tinkerer based in Berlin.

With over 8 years building software in fast-paced environments -- from FinTech OCR platforms to sustainability metrics tools -- I've developed a deep appreciation for doing things properly, even when doing them slowly.

The name says it all. Slowburn isn't about rushing to market or chasing scale. It's about building things that are thoughtful, well-crafted, and genuinely useful. Every project starts as a learning exercise, a curiosity, or a problem I've personally encountered. Some stay small. Some grow. All of them teach me something.

What drives me

Craft over speed

Good software takes time. I'd rather ship something solid in a month than something fragile in a week.

Always learning

Every project is an excuse to explore a new framework, language, or pattern. Curiosity is the fuel.

People first

Whether it's privacy-respecting apps or mentoring developers -- people are always at the centre of the work.

Friendly and approachable

Software doesn't have to be cold and corporate. I aim for warmth, humour, and honesty in everything I build.

Projects

A mix of prototypes, tools, and apps -- each one built to scratch an itch or learn something new. Some are live, some are works in progress, and all of them are labours of love.

Biome Builder

A feature-rich rhythm game where biomes are constructed by hitting beats on time. Dynamic sound via FMOD, translated voiceovers, post-processing and 3D effects.

A mixed real-time/turn-based strategy game with custom assets. Built with NativeScript Vue on the front-end and Go websockets on the backend.

Dobble Clone

A fast-paced matching card game, great for language learning. Built in a couple of evenings to see how quickly a functional hosted app could ship.
